Coalition to count homeless residents in Etowah, Calhoun counties
The Homeless Coalition of Northeast Alabama on Monday will conduct a count of homeless residents in and around Gadsden and Anniston by interviewing homeless individuals and families, along with agencies that provide services to homeless people in the area.
HCNEA and its member agencies each year gather data about homeless population in Etowah and Calhoun counties over a 24-hour period.
This 24-hour “point in time” shows the number of individuals and families who are homeless on any given night.
The information helps agencies determine the needs of the homeless in those counties, and the homeless count report is a critical component in developing policies and obtaining federal funding to address issues related to homelessness.
HCNEA is an organization of service providers, organizations and individuals concerned about the plight of people in the Gadsden and Anniston areas who currently are homeless or are at risk of homelessness.
It is dedicated to the provision of services to homeless persons and the prevention of homelessness in rural Alabama.
