Arkansas: Evangelist Loses Suit Over Beating Order

An evan­gelist who is serving a pri­son sen­tence for taking young girls across state lines for sex was or­dered to pay two for­mer members of his min­istry more than $30 million for or­dering them to be beat­en. A ju­ry on Thursday found the evan­gelist, Tony Alamo, liable in a civ­il lawsuit in Texarkana. Mr. Alamo’s lawyer, John Wesley Hall Jr., called the sums “out­lan­dish” and said he would ask that they be reduced.
